Following their triumphant appearance in 2006, SSQ returns to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall for a performance on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 2pm. This program is presented by MidAmerica Productions. Meet the Serafins in New York for a great fall weekend in the Big Apple! For concert tickets and additional information, call MidAmerica Productions at 212-239-4699 or visit www.midamerica-music.com. Serafin String Quartet was named Ensemble in Residence at Lehigh University in fall 2006 and continues the relationship with visits to the campus in 2007-08 to present a variety of lectures, performances, coachings and workshops there. These will include working with Lehigh student composers, and offering presentations on a variety of music topics. In 2007-08 SSQ teams up with a number of outstanding collaborative artists – including the Vega String Quartet and double bassist Douglas Mapp. The partnership with the Vega will feature the two quartets in concert at Emory University and in Wilmington in spring 2008. Their program includes the rarely heard and lovely work by Niels Gade, Octet for Strings. Doug Mapp joins SSQ in Dvorak’s vigorous and inspiring String Quintet in January. Visit the Concert Schedule page of the website for more details - and the Biographies page to learn more about the backgrounds of these artists. A new work for baritone and string quartet by Mark Hagerty titled Green is the Night, was commissioned by Marka Kasker-Simmons, in honor of her husband and SSQ founding violist, Anthony Simmons, who died in a car accident in 2005. The work, based on the poetry of Wallace Stevens, was premiered in May 2007 by Serafin String Quartet with baritone, Todd Thomas and will be repeated on a program at The Wilmington Music School in January 2008. |
