Serafin String Quartet spent time in December working directly with Jennifer Higdon in preparation for their upcoming recording of her early chamber works for Naxos. In January, the Serafins will be in a working retreat followed by recording sessions to complete their next CD project. Their recording will take place in Gore Recital Hall on the University of Delaware campus. Andreas Meyer of Meyer Media, LLC is the Quartet's engineer/producer and it is anticipated that Naxos will release the disc sometime in 2012. Stay tuned!

The Quartet's first of three "collage concerts" at World Cafe Live at the Queen, String Quartet Time Machine, was a big hit in December! Two other brunch-time themed concerts are scheduled - Romp Through Romanticism in February and American Tapestry in March. These innovative programs invite new and seasoned chamber music listeners, alike, to experience a non-traditional program in a non-traditional setting, and enjoy a delicious brunch at the Queen, in Wilmington!

The Quartet looks forward to more collaborations later this season. The Quartet will be joined by Barbara Govatos (violin) and Anthony Barone (piano) for a concert on March 20th at Gore Recital Hall on the University of Delaware campus.

In April, at The Music School of Delaware, the Quartet performs the Brahms Viola Quintet with UD professor, violist Esme Allen-Creighton (Wednesday, April 4 - in a program honoring the memory of Tony Simmons, the Quartet's original violist).

Later that same month, the sibling connection is back when pianist William Ransom (Kate's brother) joins the Serafins for Dvorak's exuberant and beloved Piano Quintet on the Arts at Trinity series (Saturday, April 21st). William will be up from Atlanta where he is head of the piano department at Emory University.
